As a part of our wellness series to celebrate the launch of the NEW Care Edition of The Beauty Book, we chatted to Emma about her own wellness routine.

How do you unwind after a busy day?

After work I either go for a run or do a yoga or pilates class. I find this is a really good way to unwind and leave work behind so that I can be really present with my family in the evenings. I always have dinner with my husband and daughter where we share our days with each other, then once my daughter goes to bed I do a meditation and then read as a final wind-down before bed. I’m currently reading ‘The art of happiness’ by the Dalai Lama which is a beautiful and powerful read.

What are some of your key self-care practices that ensure you keep your cup full?

One of my key self-care practices is meditation, I have a daily practice and I have found it to be incredibly powerful. I also try to exercise every day and I eat a predominantly plant-based diet which I find gives me a lot of energy and vitality.

Another key self-care practice which is small but makes the world of difference, is allowing myself space between meetings. I find it so important throughout my day to have this time for myself – to catch my breath, have a proper lunch and get some fresh air.

How has the unforeseen circumstances of the last 18 months impacted how you view self-care?

It’s made me realise, more than ever, the importance of making self-care a priority for both myself and my team. I absolutely believe that you can be successful in business and prioritise your health and wellbeing – in fact I believe finding this balance is essential. This new value system is slowly emerging in more businesses and it’s showing unequivocally that it leads to a happier, healthier workforce that is both more successful and more sustainable. Nothing is more important than the health and happiness of my team and I hope to infuse this way of doing business into my company through leading by example.

What advice would you like to have given to your younger self when it comes to health & wellness?

I would have told her that health and wellness is not a given – it requires the practice of and dedication to lots of little healthy habits. I would also have urged my younger self not to listen to the frenetic thoughts in my head, instead to tune in more with my body, and listen to and trust my intuition.

What is your favourite affirmation?

“Life is happening for you, not against you.”
