If you ever find it hard to think of an outfit and feel like you never have anything to wear, building a capsule wardrobe might be something you need to get started on.
What is a capsule wardrobe?
A capsule wardrobe is a selection of interchangeable clothing that can complement each other. These are usually simple pieces that don’t really go out of style and primarily consist of neutral colours. A capsule wardrobe allows you to mix and match with other pieces of clothing so you never have anything to wear. Also, investing in a capsule wardrobe means you’re choosing quality over quantitive, paying for high-quality clothing that will last you years instead of buying clothes that will go out of trend quick and although cheap, are not the best quality and will only last you a few washes.
Why you should have a capsule wardrobe?
There are so many reasons to why you should have a capsule wardrobe. The main reason is that the fewer clothes you have, the easier it is to make a decision. When you get ready in the morning, you’ll need to look through a few pieces of clothing that will end up going together! This not only saves you time, but it also saves on space and money! It’s also a lot more sustainable, if you own timeless pieces that you will wear for years (and pieces that can’t go out of style cause they’re simple) you’re doing the world a huge favour by minimising waste!
Basic Tees
You can never go wrong with a basic tee, it’s chic and simple. You can get them in 3 staple colours to keep in your wardrobe – white, black and grey (or beige!). Shout out to Kim Kardashian for creating SKIMS, honestly so worth it. Her cotton jersey t-shirts are always sold out so if you do get your hands on them, you’re going to be obsessed! They fit perfectly and are just the best material to wear everyday.
Blazer, Jacket or Coat
When it comes to outerwear you really want to find simple pieces that will last you for many seasons to come. This is why a simple coat or blazer will never go out of style because it’s not like you’re investing in a funky shape or print. It’s simple, clean and will look good over anything you’re wearing under. Especially with winter coming by, you want to start investing in these now so you’re well prepared for the colder months ahead. Also, you’re buying this for the next winter, next, and the next (so it’s worth the daunting price).
A good pair of denim jeans
Jeans are great because you can dress them up or down. Pop a pair of sneakers over jeans and you’ll get a cute and casual outfit, add heels and you’ve got a completely different look! Good quality jeans are so important – it’s all in the material, the cut, the feel and how it sits on your body. Levi’s are great, go for simple styles like the 90’s cut or the boyfriend jean.
Classic white sneakers
I love a white sneaker as they go with any outfit. Whether that’s a dress or pants. It’s up to you what kind of shape you want to go for and yes the dad sneaker is definitely in the moment but if you want to be safe, go for a simple basic silhouette like Adidas Stan Smiths.
Invest in jewellery
Yes, she’s pricey, but let’s be real if we calculate how much we have spent on cheap jewellery that eventually rusts and gets thrown away, we probably would have enough for some higher-quality pieces! Whether you’re a gold or silver gal, invest in pieces that will last you forever! Just keep in mind to go for classic and simple designs that can go with any outfit. Although chunky jewellery is currently in, you can never go wrong with dainty pieces – it’s timeless and forever chic.
A ladies best friend – a hand bag
Now what design you go for is up to you, but keep in mind to go for simple shapes and colours. A hobo bag is great as you can pop them over your shoulder. Or go for a crossbody or hand-held bag. Although the teeny-tiny bag is so in at the moment, it’s not exactly practical if you can’t fit anything in your bag. Make sure you can at least carry your phone, keys and a cardholder! Stick to simple shades like black or beige. Tip – match your bag with your jewellery (don’t buy a silver chained bag if you wear gold and vice versa!).
