A little over 2 years ago, a re-encounter with Sweden based Annica Forsgren-Kjellman, founder of the innovative makeup-skincare brand, MAKETHEMAKE, saw founder of The Skin Wardrobe, Catherine Tong, offered the opportunity to introduce this brand to New Zealand and Australia.
“Having lived, married and had my first two children in Sweden, I feel deeply connected to Scandinavia on so many levels. The opportunity to reunite with Scandinavia, something I thought was not possible when I said goodbye 10 years ago.” Catherine says introducing MAKETHEMAKE to New Zealand “Was such an honour. This new calling was so strong that soon after I quit my corporate career of 15 years in Human Resources, stepped on a plane to Sweden, and signed this amazing brand up. The rest is now history.”
After launching online beauty platform, The Skin Wardrobe in 2018, Catherine says her purpose became crystal clear. “Having been on my own personal skin journey, coupled with being over 40, I was looking for one thing – results-driven skincare and makeup from brands which operate with a conscience.I know what it’s like to have skin challenges (both as a teenager and now with age!), and I know how good you feel when you start to see things change. The opportunity to help others achieve great skin, whatever their age, so they can move forward in their lives with confidence, seems like a higher purpose to me.”
Since launching, The Skin Wardrobe has patterned with a further three brands with strong ties to her scandi love: Lernberger Stafsing – high performance skincare and haircare, Skintology Stockholm – advanced skincare for the ever-demanding consumer and Maria Åkerberg, one of Scandinavia’s largest natural skincare and haircare brands. Becoming New Zealand’s destination for all things minimal beauty.
The Skin Wardrobe curates advanced Scandinavian skincare brands to a waiting New Zealand and Australian audience. Catherine recognises the plethora of brands and products in the skincare market, and is purposeful about what The Skin Wardrobe offers, “To me, Scandinavian beauty embodies quality, simplicity, and beauty.
