Auckland’s ARTWEEK begins this Saturday bringing a range of immersive, multi-media events and exhibitions to the city. We have picked our favourite events from all over Auckland to keep you busy this coming week. From motion picture to sensory workshops there is something for everyone at ARTWEEK
Frida at The Vic.Â
A special ARTWEEK screening of Frida Viva La Vida is worth a trip across the harbour to Devonport’s historic cinema. The film highlights the two sides of Frida Kahlo’s spirit, the revolutionary, pioneering artist and the other, the human being, victim of her tortured body and tormented relationship.Â

Explore the very best of ARTWEEK by e-bike! Join a guided tour, exploring Auckland whilst taking in the finest of ARTWEEK 2020 – for free – thanks to Mercury. Sessions begin 10th October with options from weekend rides to late-night trails.Â
Drawing Club.
Drop into the Ellen Melville Centre for a night of drawing. Pick up a pencil and join fellow art enthusiasts, while you draw the night away. All art materials supplied, so whether you’re an experienced sketcher or have a newfound hobby immerse yourself in a setting of live models and still life backdrops.Â
Painting with Puppies.Â
Learn to paint while playing with puppies – what more could you ask for! Partnering with Auckland Puppy Rescue, Art in Bloom are hosting what might be, the cutest ARTWEEK event of the year. All puppies joining you for a creative session are up for adoption – we wouldn’t blame you if you left with more than just a piece of art!Â
Dreamland.
Auckland venue Elizabeth’s will be transformed into a multi-sensory, immersive experience created by visual artist Veronika Sola. Dreamland invites you to explore the concept of change as the only constant in life, in a space of light, sound, scent and moving image. Appearing alongside the exhibition is a series of workshops, from floral masterclasses, fragrance workshops and a gin & tonic tasting.Â
Art Yoga at The Creative Playground.Â
You heard me correctly! Find your inner child as you explore colours and music to guide you towards a deeper reflection and discovery of yourself. Creating a space to allow your imagination to go wild, no skill is required to start.Â
Make a Sketch Drawing Party.
This ARTWEEK, Objectspace is hosting a rolling cast of tutors for a drawing party. Join a series of sketching exercise where you can flex your creative skills, with each tutor suggesting different ways of tackling a drawing. Pop in for 10 minutes or stay for the full two hours, the choice is yours.Â
 Tanu Gago, Savage In the Garden.Â
‘Savage in the Garden’ is a collection of poems dedicated to the contemporary notions of Pacific masculinity. Samoan-born artist, Tanu Gago addresses expressions of cultural, gender and sexual identity, brining several audiovisual works to life, with immersive moving image projects screening in the waterfront precinct throughout ARTWEEK.Â
